Een boeddhistische monnik vangt weeskinderen op in zijn klooster in de Gouden Driehoek van Thailand, een ruige streek met veel drugssmokkel.

De boeddhistische monnik Phra Khru Bah, een voormalige Thai-boxer, reist te paard de dorpen af om gezondheidszorg en educatie te verspreiden onder dorpsbewoners die geen enkele steun ondervinden van een overheid. Deze zogenoemde Tiger Monk heeft met zijn Golden Horse Temple een weeshuis, school en ziekenhuis gebouwd - een veilige haven voor de weeskinderen. Zijn leerlingen zien hem als sjamaan, vaderfiguur en coach tegelijk. Een jaar lang volgen we in deze documentaire de ontwikkeling van een aantal kinderen die door hem worden opgevangen.

The film was also awarded the Crystal Film prize, at The Netherlands Film Festival for reaching an audience of 10,000 in its first 15 days of release.

Buddha's Lost Children has since gone on to win the Jury Award for Best Documentary at the Newport Beach Film Festival (2007), the prize for Best Global Insight Film at the Jackson Hole Film Festival (2007) and the David L. Wolper Best Documentary Award at the Sonoma Film Festival (2007).
